As we head into a new year, there is plenty on the table in terms of PV cell and module innovation. In this pv magazine Webinar, accompanied by solar manufacturer JA Solar, we take a look at some of the technology trends making their way to the market in 2024 and beyond, and how these are exemplified in the company’s latest series of modules, the DeepBlue 4.0 Pro. As a bonus, we’re joined by quality assurance provider TÜV Nord for a look at how some of these latest PV innovations perform once deployed in the field.

In 2023, the solar industry’s switch to n-type technology – chiefly tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) cells – really got underway, growing to represent more than 20% of the overall market for solar cells. This trend is expected to continue in 2024, as TOPCon modules prove their worth in the field. As well as the cells, accompanying innovations in wafer, module and all along the supply chain promise to push even higher levels of performance as the new year unfolds.

In this pv magazine Webinar, we examine some of the key innovations among these, as JA Solar’s Lida Guo introduces the company’s latest module series, DeepBlue 4.0 Pro. This bifacial TOPCon module incorporates rectangular wafers, small-space interconnection, and more innovations promising top performance in utility-scale, commercial and residential projects.

Following on from Lida, Yixiao Zhang, technical engineer – Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Systems at quality assurance provider TÜV Nord will join to talk a little more about how these new technologies are performing in outdoor testing, and analyze both the benefits and potential risks for buyers that come with adopting these latest module technologies.

Speakers

Lida Guo | Senior Product Strategy Manager, JA Solar

Lida Guo graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) with a Master's degree, majoring in photovoltaics and solar energy. She is an experienced solar PV product manager with over 10 years of experience working for several of the world's leading solar PV companies, having an in-depth understanding of solar cell and module technologies, the PV market, and mainstream products. I also have extensive exposure to and familiarity with the major IEC standards like IEC61215 and IEC61730. Additionally, she has submitted over 40 patent applications, with 20 patents granted so far. I also have 4 published papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Yixiao Zhang | Technical Engineer, TÜV Nord

Yixiao holds a Master's degree from the University of New South Wales. He pursued studies in photovoltaics, solar cells, and photovoltaic manufacturing. He has been with TÜV NORD Shanghai Branch since September 2020, initially as an Assistant Project Engineer and later transitioning to his current role as a Technical Engineer in May 2023. His responsibilities have included project management and development.
